A Piece of my Mind: To the Parents and Kids, Sexual Abusers and Victims...and You- Rx Jennifer Olakpe

Few weeks back when I was on night duty at Lagos Island maternity hospital a 13yr old girl was brought in, she had been raped by a 36yr old man ...

Hmmm... I have had a lot of thoughts on my mind lately and I have been finding it difficult to put my thoughts into words, you know, that moment when you have a thousand and one thoughts in the crevices of your mind. I mean deep down you and you can't but unbottle the pent up mixed feelings.
I am sick and tired of hearing rape stories, it totally breaks my heart, and I just can’t imagine how the rape victims feel. Let's take a look at what rape really is. Rape is having sex with someone without their permission and forcefully too, so I can also state that it is possible for a woman to be raped by her husband. I used to think it was only girls that could be raped but talking to my best friend, he brought it to my knowledge that the male gender can also be raped just that the female rape is on the high side, he even went further telling me about a woman in Canada, who sexually abused her son’s male friends and was facing trial for the act. The one that’s so annoying and depressing is the case of the paedophiles….I mean like seriously (straight face)
A young girl carrying a baby

What is so attractive to any man, old enough to control his sexual urge (between I should think all men know how to control their sexual urges), in little girls that aren’t mature? It just disgusts me and beats my imagination to know that some 30yr old man will push his 'big thing' into a little girl's virgina, a girl who is about 10 years or less.  Oga  paedophile do you know what you do to this little ones? Do you know how damaged you leave them? Do you know what that dirty act turns these girls into? They are broken, shattered, destroyed on all sides; they feel less loved and guess what? That act destroys their love and outlook of life. That act even follows them into their relationships, oh how you destroy great destinies of our society, nation and world with that one dirty and abusive act!!!!!
Weeks back when I was on night duty at Lagos Island maternity hospital a 13yr old girl was brought in, she had been raped by a 36yr old man or so. He kidnapped her and after raping her he took her to Ajah and dumped her there. Like seriously if you must do haba!!!! I feel there are still cheap local babes, why put a girl through that trauma, hurt and pain? He was caught though but what hurts me is that the penalty for rape is less than 5 years in our country. At some point this year the rate of the paedophilia act increased amazingly, there were pictures flooding twitter of older men having their genitals in the mouth of little girls, I was disturbed and pained, I mean WHAT THE HELL!!!!! Don’t blame these girls if they become nymphs, you made them that way…..  It’s so rampant in India and I love what the government there did weeks back, death sentence should be the penalty for such a crime because to me you have indirectly destroyed a life and in a way destroyed a generation and a hope for a brighter tomorrow.
Dear mother why do close uncles rape your little girls? Note: I am not saying it is your fault but what role did you play in educating your little girls about sex? Did you tell them what their privates are and also alert them that no one; I mean NO ONE was allowed to touch them there? Or that if anyone did as much as touch them on any sensitive part of their body they should let you know? This are questions I ask myself when uncles rape their nieces because trust me it started from somewhere…it started from a Jane sit on my laps, smacking of Jane’s butt unnecessarily saying they are just playing with her, calling Jane my small wife, which small wife? Rebuke such statements as soon as it’s being made! Even with the aunts too, touching the little girls growing breast….I am sorry if I am taking this too far but hey! Don’t blame my mind. I think its high time parents learned and got used to enlightening their kids about these things. I am not a mother yet so if you are saying what does she know about parenting sef ? You are right, I know nothing but I know and feel that the relationship between parents and their kids should be as though they are best friends; get involved dear mum and dad, yes! the dads are not left out! Be involved in their everyday life it’s not just about school and assignments, be accessible!!! Let your kids be free to tell you personal stuff, make yourself their daily living diary, avoid a certain level of closeness between your daughter and one uncle or you son and one aunt. Talking about house helps, honestly only God can save parents from the hands of the wrong house helps. No one knows the heart of man, pray for your kids and also pray that God touches the hearts of whoever you leave them with. God help us all and I pray that we have the grace to be the best parents we can be, AMEN!
...then comes a sigh of relief; so free a mind. *wink*

UNVEILING THE SECRETS OF KING DAVID-SoD.

This group has done great things for itself in North Cyprus and has been replicating such feats in Nigeria and London, UK in bits. Also, having a mass choir worldwide in the long run is a desire which will metamorphose into a  huge platform for gospel singers in Nigeria and the Diaspora.
-Deborah Monebi, Visionary and founder.

On July 4, 2010 a group of young Christians with passion of sharing the good news of Christ to men came together to form a singing group called the SECRET OF DAVID.

“We want to meet the heart cry of people who are longing to encounter the living God through worship and songs”, Deborah  said.

With conviction, passion and clarity she lets us into the genesis of the name Secret of David.
“The SECRET OF DAVID was that he knew how to call on God, if you read through the book of psalms you we see he knew when and how to use the right word for every situation. We are here to take you to a place where encountering and interacting with God will no more be a difficult thing”.

GOALS

-To evangelize

-To create an atmosphere of communication with God (worship)

-To give hope and encouragement to people and nations

-To bring revival to His church and nations of the earth.

-To portray in works and deed the power inherent in spiritual songs

Since ‘Secret of David’ is in Cyprus and now in Nigeria and London. The next step is working on gathering a mass choir worldwide and birthing a suitable platform via concerts, listening parties, trainings, to mention a few, for gospel singers/musicians in Nigeria and beyond.  Besides, SoD anticipates having a debut album pretty soon.

D’AMBASADOR SQUEEZED THESE OUT…LET’S HEAR FROM THE GROUP MEMBERS!

·         Benedict (WORDSMITH) Solomon: Nigerian with a Masters degree in Economics (in view) and first of five siblings.

The Gift and Craft: “Music, composition and the ability to be crafty with words is a gift I discovered at age 8.”

The Beginnings and SOD: “Don Moen, Ron Kenoly, Kirk Franklin , R.Kelly and the likes influenced my singing experience....the Secret Of David (S.O.D) Cyprus chapter In April 2012(formative period)”

The Experience and more: “It has been wonderful worshipping under that umbrella with young minds that are filled with the Holy spirit, composing and showcasing the gifting of God together sharpening ourselves and reaching out as the Spirit leads”.

Wordsmith has an album, five singles, a video and two slide videos.

Please do see for yourself!

·         KOLI AKPET, Nigerian.

Singing Experience and Music: “My earliest memory is in the school choir of my primary school. I also remember singing a lot at home because my neighbours and siblings still talk about it- I was their worst nightmare. My parents were quite supportive about my interest in music. However, music was always an escape to me, a place where I could always find peace; something I loved doing a lot! Now, singing is more than a hobby or passion. It is my voice and more than anything, I want to be heard. I don't restrict myself to a particular type of music because I express myself through my music- I sing it as I feel it.”

Purpose and Aspirations:  “Someday, I want to tour the world and bless people's lives with my music the same way other ministers have blessed and transformed my life with the message in their songs. Today, I head an amazing group of young Christians in North Cyprus who share my passion for the gospel music ministry and together we do amazing things for God. We sing, dance, act and are ready to do anything that'll bless God's heart and the heart of His people. There's no greater satisfaction in life than doing that which you know you were created for”.

·          FRANCOIS-XAVIER ADA, Cameroonian.

SoD and my Changed Life: “Secret of David has been part of my life since 2010 and I have cherished every single day of it. It has truly changed my life. I have learnt a great deal from my peers and colleagues in SOD. When I joined the family I wasn't a born again Christian but from the encouragements of my brothers and sisters in the group, I decided to give my life to Christ and it has never been the same”.

Gift and Worship: “My musical skills, career and network have tremendously increased. Back home in Cameroon, I used to sing in a group called Freedom. We did mostly casual Christian and motivational singing and people clapped and applauded our efforts. Then SOD taught me about worshipping God. Just like David, I asked God to create in me a clean heart so that I may worship Him too.

Love at Work and Plans: “I guess the secret in SOD is the love we have for each other. Though silent sometimes, we love each other very much. I have so many plans for the future! God help me! Musically I believe in God's grace in me to add color to the way people worship in Africa”.

GET INSPIRED! TWO STORIES, TRUE STORIES AND BE THROUGH WITH STORIES(COMPLAINTS)

What Really Matters.

As we journey here on earth, perspective really counts. It (perspective) will determine if we live a beautiful or miserable life. Read  the story below and be inspired.
A man once went to a minister for counseling.
“I’ve lost everything” he bemoaned. “Oh,” the preacher responded, “I’m so sorry to hear you’ve lost your faith.” “No,” the man corrected him, “I haven’t lost my faith.” “Well then,” replied the preacher, “I’m sad to hear you’ve lost your character.” “I didn’t say that,” the man corrected. “I still have my character.” “Then I’m so sorry to hear you’ve lost your salvation.” “That’s not what I said!” the man objected, beginning to lose patience. The minister explained, “Well, you have your faith, your character, and your salvation. Seems to me, you have lost none of the things that really matter.”
We haven’t either. You and I could pray like the Puritan who sat down to a meal of bread and water. He bowed his head and declared, “All this and Jesus too?” Can’t we be equally content? Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:6, “Godliness with contentment is great gain!”
All I pray this day is that I see from your perspective, dear Lord 'cos that's what really matters.

**********
And He Kissed the dust...
In a concentration camp, a guard announced a shovel was missing. Screaming at the men, he kept insisting someone had stolen it. He shouldered his rifle, ready to kill one prisoner at a time until a confession was made. As the story continues, a Scottish soldier broke ranks, stood stiffly at attention, and said, “I did it.” The guard killed the man. As they returned to camp, the shovels were counted. The guard had made a mistake. No shovel was missing after all.
It cannot be any other than my righteous Saviour and Lord. The man Jesus isn't further from this equation. If he could not take my place, who would?
Thank you Jesus for taking my place!

Both stories culled from Max Lucado's e-devotional.

MEMORIES...AWAKEN BY THE DUST OF BENIN.

Memories...awaken by the dust of Benin

Memories.
Away from Bauchi,
Far away from the clutches of Book-A-Ram vampires.
But long way from home.
I ran as fast as I could yet I fainted slowly...
All eyeballs rolling in the womb of the dusk.
Of the domain of Omo N'Oba the King. (Yawn)

The city-gates flung open and the voice rang through.
'Welcome back to Benin'!
Two full cycles are gone and here I come.
To pay homage...Oba atopeye!
(Long live the king).

COVER STORY: IS THIS NATION WORTH MY BLOOD? *First published in TELL magazine May 14, 2012 Page 49

COVER STORY
IS THIS NATION WORTH MY BLOOD?
BY OLUDOTUN ADESUA
(AN EX-CORPER’S DIARY)

It was a sunny Monday afternoon. Having had a great time at my place of primary assignment. I left for Alhaji Omar Hassan’s residence where I taught his kids (popularly called PP-private practice amongst corps members). No sooner I got there, than I began to receive persistent phone calls from housemates asking of my whereabouts. I could not reconcile the extremely calm town and its warm people I used to know with the news of hostility and inhumanity that was reaching me. I rushed out of my host’s residence only to find out that the roads were deserted. I was petrified and jittery. At the peak of my desperation to get to a safe haven, a man who has just moved his family to the army barracks rescued me, a stranded stranger.
Scanned page of my article published in TELL magazine(a leading magazine in Nigeria)May 14, 2012 Page 49
How can I forget in a hurry how I fled for dear life from Zubuki village in Itas Gadau Local Government, in Bauchi state after I was given free knocks on my head and humiliated in my National Youth Service Corps uniform at the polling station where I was posted to as an an Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) ad-hoc staff and later rescued by a god sent motorcycle rider. Eventually I got to Bauchi, the state capital at 11pm. Few hours after, the town was literally on fire. The INEC office in Bauchi LG was set ablaze, bonfires at the major roundabouts, roads and even wanton destruction of lives and property. The fear of these and unfavourable security reports and rumours locked me behind walls and gates for three days and nights. Hot, consistent and persistent fear-propelled prayers and intercession flowed ceaselessly and heavily from my lips and confused mind.
How can I also forget in a hurry how friends and acquaintances were sent to early graves? The body of Kehinde Adeniji, the brilliant and visionary president of Banking and Finance department during my set at the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State was brought back home before he finished his national service. I recalled our last moments at Gadau(where I was posted for the elections). We ate lafun, a local food made of  cassava flour, and okro and stew prepared in the same pot. He later gave me a  passport-sized  photograph to deliver to another friend of ours in Bauchi LG. I passed the night in an adjacent room to his; shared thoughts of our spectacular experiences and said farewell, not knowing that it would be the last.
As for Ayotunde Ebenzer Gbenjo and Anslem Nkwazema our paths crossed at Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship(NCCF), Gbenjo’s story is very pathetic in the sense that he with some other corps members were rescued from Tafawa Balewa’s LG’s communal clash that claimed lives and property- even a corper’s  lodge. Yet death still ambushed him during the post-presidential election crisis. In the case of Nkwazema (Anslem, Giade papa),a gentleman, he ran for safety into a police station but was smoked out and butchered thereafter. Should I wake the painful memory of the newly married and pregnant Gift Anyanwu who was badly burnt and gave up the ghost few days after at the National Hospital Abuja?
How do I forget Teidi Tosin Olawale, OKpokiri Obinna Michael, Adowei Elliot , Adewunmi Seun Paul, Okeoma Ikechukwu Chibuzor and Akonyi Ibrahim Sule? They all perished in what could be called a politically motivated conflict with religious colouration, the height of man’s inhumanity to man.

Although, I expressed an unusual optimism in an interview with   a reporter in a May 2011 edition of 234next(now rested)online newspaper, which was attacked by many readers. I captured my thoughts in the poem I titled ‘Tribute to Our Martyrs’(April 2011).
NYSC is compromised. It is a scheme that dances to the tune of the highly connected, the mighty  and the wealthy. Their children and wards serve in choice cities like Abuja, Lagos, and Kano, as well as big companies or organisations while the other choice-less corps members wallow in despicable conditions. Wicked employers absorb cheap labour, some even serve ‘legislooters’ kola nuts during meetings at the National Assembly(The Punch; Mar Fri 9 2012). What about those kidnapped by militants, even the Osun ‘royal rape’, or the avoidable road accidents that claim some lives. Little wonder, the acronym is sarcastically redefined as ‘Now Your Suffering Continues’
What a compromised NYSC! It is a pity that the Yakubu Gowon-conceived NYSC paramilitary and unifying scheme has become a laughing stock. The big question is: Has NYSC overstayed its welcome? Or considering its purpose/vision of national intergration, cultural cohesion, inter-tribal marriage, job opportunities to mention but a few. Or is it that it needs a complete restructuring?
Its one year(now two years), I don’t want to believe that a critical lesson learnt is that you can perpetuate and sponsor evil and get away with it. What a nation! When will greed for money, fame and power become a thing of the past in this corner of  the world?
However, all thanks to the scheme for the smattering Hausa language I speak, the opportunity to impart knowledge and values into young secondary school students of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Secondary School and adventure to the northern part of Nigeria-for the very first time. But no thanks to the crisis for truncating my plan to visit Yankari Games Reserve, Bauchi.
A nation that eats its future destiny in the present is not worth a drop of my blood. Nevertheless, I believe in the Nigerian dream of the emergence of a great nation. In Dr Tunde Bakare’s words “Nigeria will prosper in my lifetime” .
-ADESUA, WHO SERVED IN BAUCHI STATE DURING THE CRISIS NOW LIVES AND WORKS IN LAGOS.
Mr President was dressed up for CDS meeting;this was taken when the going was good.

ENTERTAINMENT: I DO COMEDY,YET I’M NOT A COMEDIAN- S.E.GUN OSCA

ENTERTAINMENT: I DO COMEDY,YET I’M NOT A COMEDIAN- S.E.GUN OSCA

Door flung open, pleasantries ran across the room, bodies hunted for one another as ‘comedian’, public speaker and writer, S.E.Gun the Ondo State Comedy Ambassador, stormed the cre8tive lounge. The Extra-large bodied clown let us into his natural habitat and sphere of influence as he both made us laugh and intimated us of his achievements and dreams. S.E.Gun has a unique way of playing and bringing out fun from words, he calls it ‘punfun’;The closest he brings to mind is Dele Omotunde of TELL magazine's syndicated column-OPILOGUE(now rested).

Dotun Adesua of D'Ambasador Services(PR/Media/Entertaiment arm) engages S.e.gun the  Ondo State Comedy Ambassador:

S.E.GUN WITH TmanEmcee(Tolu Borokini)

Enjoyable read!

https://mail.google.com/mail/images/cleardot.gif

Dotun- Do describe S.e.gun?

S.e.gun(pron:S.E.gun)is not a gun totting hoodie(laughter) I was born, Babatunde Oluwasegunfunmi Tolutope to Mr. and Mrs. BOT Omojola…(laughs) of course, who else for born me, but I’m simply called Segun Omojola. I describe myself, as obvious, fun to be with, passionately spontaneous, multi-gifted and blessed.

D
otun- Wow! Little wonder, you are into comedy or comedy is in(to) you.(smiles)

S
.e.gun- I wish I could say I was born into it, but, as far back as memory serves me, I didn’t want any dull moments, I didn’t like to see moody faces and all, so I went out of my way to try to liven up anywhere I found myself. Though in the early days, I was more of a nuisance than fun to be with, that was what I felt anyways, but I later realized that people loved my so called 'nuisance' because when I find myself feeling blue and quiet, people go, Segun what’s up?(Straight face and worried look) I quickly snap out of it and switch on the fun.

Dotun- Your stage-name S.E.gun still amazes me; conjoined with it is  'the Ondo State Comedy Ambassador (OSCA)'. Is it an award, title or brand?

S.e.gun- (laughs)The story long but let me 'shortcut' it. I looked at my name,Segun, and discovered that my nickname was embedded in it, that is S.e.gun (combination of alphabets S and E and the word ‘gun’-S.E.Gun) .While Ondo State Comedy Ambassador was born mid-2012. For instance, Alibaba is the Grand Comedian of the Federal Republic (GCFR), Jedi is the Well Fed Comedian, and my friend Ayodele Okundalaiye is known as the Senior Advocate of Comedy (SACO) so I thought to myself, in line with my passion for promoting Ondo State, why don’t I link myself with Ondo State ?  So I did some consultations, not Ifa(voodoo) things ooo-(laughs) and came up with Ondo State Comedy Ambassador, although I don’t address myself as a Comedian.

D
otun- (Sigh)Really?

S.e.gun- Yea! My ability to communicate effectively and be witty at the same time brought about a-one word  creative contraption-Comedycate, So,I call myself the Comedycator, you get the gist ba? (Laughs).

D
otun- Sure. (serious look) What motivates you?

S.e.gun-hmm, fun, the sound of rich gushing laughter, joy, happiness as in when I’m able to cause people to express all of these that I have mentioned and more, I love to see people happy. I made a decision way back when I was much younger that, even if all the time I had to spend with someone is just a second, that person will never forget me and interestingly, I find that to be the case whether I’m conscious of it or not.

Dotun- Akure,Ondo state, is your where you are based. Can you assess the growth of comedy industry there?

S.e.gun- Nice question. The comedy industry in Ondo state can best be described as emerging, growing, developing. Let me stop there before I finish the thesaurus-(laughs). My passion for the State led me to partner with other like-minded comedy acts from the state and beyond. Now we have comedy shows. Holy Laff came up in Ondo town on the 23rd of September 2012. It was put together by House of Talk Media led by the ArkBishop. Then I organized mine on the 2nd of December 2012. The show was tagged, Comedy Blast with OSCA and Friends. The turnout was incredible; it was actually a sold out show.
S.E.gun

D
otun- Comedy B-l-a-s-t!(stressed) My ears are really itching...

S
.e.gun-(laughs) it was a blast but not that a bomb went off ooo! My outfit, S.e.gun Concepts pushed it, Ondo State Agency for the Control of AIDS(ODSACA) supported it and Xclusive 2 Divinity(X2D) a foremost Gospel entertainment TV (with headquarters in Lagos)were our major media partner. Also, I had the backing of the SEE ONDO CREW. SEE ONDO is an acronym for Service, Exchange and Enterprise Ondo a network of brands in the state with the aim of putting Ondo state on the world map through the provision of excellent service.

Dotun-  Can I have a peep into other creative projects in the pipeline?

S.e.gun- Sure. I have passion for writing. I have compiled a collection of jokes(yet to be published) Also, there is a unique first of its kind Beauty Pageant in the offing…This year(2013) holds so much more for us.

D
otun- Before I say thank you for the audience…

S.e.gun- Make I say my own first(laugh). I  want to say a big thank you to the fan in my bedroom for keeping me cool during the heat period… laughs. I call that punfun. Anyways, to my fans out there and all that will read this, I say ngyabonga which is the way the Zulus say thank you for your immense support. I also want to encourage you to continue to support your own, promote your own and enjoy your own, me!!!

Dotun- Thank you for making me ‘laugh out my lungs’(lol)

S
.e.gun-hahahaha!
